CLOTHES
Tunisian people dress in many different ways. Some wear modern clothing like in Canada, while others dress in traditional ways. Different communities wear different styles of clothing. People do like to wear loose fitting, light weight and light coloured clothing in Tunisia because the climate is very hot.

The holy book of the Muslims, the Qur'an, teaches that clothing should not attract attention or show off ones body. The only parts of the body that should be shown are the hands and the face. Women are to cover their heads with a hijab, especially when they enter a mosque. A hijab is a headscarf worn by Muslim women, sometimes including a veil that covers the face except for the eyes. Sometimes women will wear the traditional light white veil called the safsari. This is draped over the head, leaving the face free and then wrapped around the body to just above the ankles. Safsaris are usually made of white cotton. They are held close by the hands, in some areas in such a way that only one eye is seen.

Traditional male dress includes baggy pants and a long loose shirt, with perhaps a cotton robe with a hood over their pants and shirt called a jalabiyya. Men often wear brimless hats made of felt, called chichias. Sometimes men also wear a skullcap or turban on their heads.
