Message from Administration

Dear Kodiak Families:

We had a busy week selling Candy grams this week and will deliver them to students on Valentine’s Day. We are looking forward to our volleyball game between the teachers and students next Thursday!


2023/2024 Alberta Education Assurance (AEA) Survey

The Alberta Education Assurance Survey (AES) is now open for students in Grades 4, 7 and 10, (including online schools), teachers and parents/guardians. Submissions close March 1. Parents/guardians can complete the survey online. https://public.education.alberta.ca/APOS/

Packages were sent to parents/guardians via Canada Post which include:

·         a Parent Notification Letter containing information about the survey;

·         a letter containing a Random Access Code (RAC) and a QR code for accessing the survey online; and

·         instructions for accessing the survey in other languages.

One survey is to be completed for each child and parents/guardians will receive separate RACs for each child. The survey is available in English or French. If you require a survey in a language other than English or French, contact your school principal. Punjabi, Cree, Korean, Denesuł̨in̨e,́ Tagalog, Chinese (Traditional or Simplified), Arabic, Spanish or Urdu translations are currently available. Please contact your school with questions upon receiving the survey package. 


What’s Up at Kathyrn

February 13: Parent Council meeting and Locked Room event, 5:00-8:00


February 14, Leadership students have planned activities for the K-5 for part of the afternoon, and a dance for the Gr 6-8 in the last period of the day  


February 15: Student vs Staff Volleyball game


February 16-23: No school


February 28: Be Brave Hitmen Game, Gr 6-8


February 28: Pink Shirt Day


February 29: Hot lunch, Extreme Pita (deadline to order is the 24th)

CTF Foods Class

Our Foods class has been busy in the kitchen. Below we have deep-fried pickles, big-mac’s and hash-brown casserole.

Registration 2024-2025

Astrodome

Candygram Delivery

We had a fantastic number of candygrams sold this week. Thank you to all who participated! They will be delivered to Kindergarten students on February 13th, and Grade 1-8 on February 14th.

Leadership Students, Airdrie Care Community visit

The leadership students went to Airdrie Care Community to visit the residents on January 30th, and meet their pen pals. We heard such positive feedback from the students on how much they enjoyed the visit- they wish to do it again!

CTF Photography Class

The students practice taking photos of various viewpoints throughout the class. This particular photo is of forced perspectives.

Other Important News

Nut Aware

Please keep in mind we are a Nut Aware school. We kindly ask you to refrain from sending nuts (including Nutella) with your student to class, we do have significant allergies within the school.


Hot Lunch

Parent volunteers have set up hot lunch again for this year. Families can place orders  by visiting the website: www.healthyhunger.ca. Our next hot lunch is February 29th, from Extreme Pita. Deadline to order is February 24th.

Kindergarten Scavenger Hunt

The Gr 7/8 class meets every Thursday with their Kindergarten buddies, for a variety of activities. This week the Kindergarten class had to find hidden alphabet letters around the school.

School Council

School Council will host their next meeting on February 13, 2024, at Kathyrn School or by Zoom at 5:00 pm. The Zoom link will be send closer to the date. After the meeting there will be a Locked Room held at the school from 6-8. All parents are welcome to attend both the meeting and the locked room, food is provided.

Outdoor Education, Gr 6, 7, 8

The Outdoor Ed class has been learning how to survive in the wilderness. Last week they were building shelters, and this week they learned how to build fires.
