Message from Administration

Dear Kodiak Families:

Great to see the sun shining again and not have the bitter cold. Hopefully we do get some more snow as we certainly need the moisture. As you can see in the pictures, the students certainly had some fun outside with the recent snowfall. We have lots of exciting events coming up at school. Our hot chocolate sales proceeds will go towards purchasing material for our Valentine’s Day events so hope to see students buy some hot chocolate next week. Have a wonderful weekend!

What’s Up at Kathyrn

Jan 29, 31, Feb 2- Hot Chocolate Sales

January 30: Gr 1 vaccinations (only for students that are not up to date)

February 1: Leadership students visit Airdrie Care Community

February 2: Astrodome visits the school

February 8: Hot lunch, Papa Murphy’s (deadline to order is February 3)

February 16-23: No school

February 28: Be Brave Hitmen Game for Gr 6-8

Hot Chocolate

Kathryn Kodiak's leadership students will be selling hot chocolate with marshmallows on Jan 29th, 31st and Feb 2nd. The leadership students will be selling them at the store in the school during lunch hour (12:15-12:45). The cost of the hot chocolate is $0.50 per cup.

School Cash

Moving forward we will be utilizing a new system RVS has implemented. Most in-school permission forms will now be available for signing through School Cash. No more returning paper forms, and no more printing forms!

Please take note when you receive an email stating there are new items for you in School Cash, as it may be a permission/consent form. School Cash is no longer just for purchasing items, or paying fees, but also for singing important documents. This will definitely help ease the tracking of forms for the office.

Leadership Students

Our leadership students will be visiting Airdrie Care Community in the afternoon on February 1, as part of their leadership course. The leadership students made Christmas cards for the care center residents and they received an overwhelming response of letters in return. So they will get to meet their pen-pals, socialize and interact with them during their visit.

Crazy Hair Day

PBIS

The BEAR NESSESSITIES (PBIS) are positive behaviors that are encouraged and expected in the school for all students to be accountable, respectful, and safe.

This month, Mrs. Pankratz's grade 4 class is teaching the school about Property Pride which is a way to demonstrate Accountability.

Property Pride is being proud of our space, taking care of our stuff, and taking care of the space we use as a community. Some examples include:

  • keeping your space clean

  • cleaning up messes even when it isn't yours

  • putting items away when you are done using them

  • reporting broken items

  • keeping items safe

Grade 4 is challenging others to find people showing property pride and they are challenging the whole school to get a minimum of 20 shout-outs for property pride this month!

Kindergarten

The warmer weather has allowed for some fun outdoor play in kindergarten.

Skills and learning that are observed are:

Communication, teamwork, problem solving, cooperation, turn taking, gross motor - digging, shoveling, pushing, and pulling.

myBlueprint

myBlueprint is an online portfolio that Rocky View Schools use as part of the communication of student learning. If you receive an email (new students/families) please accept it so you can see photos or videos or reflections of learning throughout the year. Please see the attached information about myBlueprint.

Kindergarten with Mrs. Irvine

Each week Mrs. Irvine, our learning support teacher, does fun activities with the Kindergarten class. This week their focus was hand strength and control through various activities.
