Message from Administration

Dear Kodiak Families:

I hope everyone was able to stay safe driving this past week and didn’t travel unless you needed to. It was pretty treacherous out there earlier this week! The weather was quite a bit colder this week so just a reminder to have your children dress warm for the weather! Hard to believe that we will be starting November next week! Hope everyone enjoys their weekend and please see below for additional information of upcoming events and some pictures of past events!

The RCMP came in on Monday to offer guidance while we practiced a school-wide Lock-Down. They were very impressed with how quiet and still the students were- Kudos to the Students! Their comment was “If we did not know better we would have thought there was no one at the school.” Well done!!

Individual photos and order information went home this week. If you wish to order prints the deadline is November 2nd, either online or via paper order. If ordering with the paper order form, please return the form to your student’s homeroom teacher. Retakes are being done on November 9th.

Kathyrn School is holding a Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 9th. We are seeking photos of your family members who have or are actively serving, to put in a slideshow. Please include the family member’s name, the relationship to the student/family, which conflict they served in, and the regiment information and email it to kathyrn@rockyview.ab.ca. Please send your photos by November 1st.

A few photos from Twin day!

Meet the Staff

Mrs. Greenwood- Administrative Assistant III

Hello from your local administrative assistant! I live in Irricana with my husband and two kiddos. As a family we enjoy camping, gardening, baking/cooking, watching hockey, or hanging out with our animals- a dog, a Chinchilla and our horse. My favorite classes in school were foods and Phys. Ed.  Growing up I stayed busy with competitive equestrian events, and around my horse schedule I played rec volleyball throughout high school and played on my college soccer team.

Kathyrn Kodiak Volleyball

Mr. Drummond and Mrs. Adams are coaching our Kodiak Volleyball teams. Grade 6 practices are in full swing. We have both a boys and girls team this year, and they have been practicing during lunch hour. There is a tournament coming up on November 3rd. The girls’ games will take place at Meadowbrook School (Airdrie) and the boys’ games will take place at Muriel Clayton School (Airdrie). Times will be provided to families next week.

There is a grade 7-8 girls team this year, and their practices begin next week. The tournament dates are: November 17th, November 24th and December 1st. Locations and times have not yet been announced.

CDA Corner

A message from our CDA, Ms. Ludwig

Have you ever witnessed your child not being able to stand up for themselves?

You can remind them to kindly and firmly stand up for themselves by practicing the phrases below so that your child will feel more confident to speak up in the future.

Use the poster 5 Things I Can Do To Stand Up to have this type of conversation with your child and equip them with tools they can use to be assertive and kind.
